"The Odyssey" begins with the titanic invasion of Troy by Odysseus and the Greek armies, come to reclaim the kidnapped princess Helen. According to legend, Odysseus thought up the Trojan Horse trick to sneak into the city and end the war.

The Trojan War was almost certainly a real event, occurring roughly 1,200BC.
